Year 3 spoke to the whole school today in a brilliant assembly about the 2016 Olympic games, which start in Brazil in 81 days! It was really interesting and the children showed examples of 2 of the Olympic values, 'excellence' as they had clearly worked very hard, and 'inspiration' by encouraging everyone to try a new sport and to keep working at something until you succeed! Annabel ended the assembly by encouraging people to 'try their hardest and don't let yourself down. One day you could be travelling around the world with a gold medal around your neck! We all believe in you, you should believe in yourself!"
Here are some of the facts that I learnt and I thought I'd share with you

- 306 medal events
- 204 countries are taking part with 10,000 of the world's athletes included
- The distance between London and Rio is 5766 miles and would take 12 hours to fly there and 22 days to go on a ferry
- The Olympic flame was introduced in 1928 in the summer Olympics in Amsterdam and have been part of the games ever since
Well done and thank you Year 3
