Art & DT | |
Each half term the children complete an Art assessment using a still image. This is kept in their Art and DT assessment folders, which we keep and add to throughout their time at St Mary's. Every class has their own artist to research and produce a copy of their famous work. DT is taught throughout the year using many different types of mediums including wood work, embroidery and recycled art. Cooking is part of the DT curriculum, each class has one half term to produce something tasty from pizzas to swiss rolls! |

English | |
The Key Stages teach each style of writing at the same time, so that we can share ideas and moderate work across classes accurately. We use the 'Stick, Mark, Boom' system to mark work and ensure that all of the characteristics of the styles of writing have been included. Children from Years 2 to 6 peer mark each other's work, which has proven to be effective.

Geography | |
Geography is taught in Years 1- 6 following the requirements set out in the 2014 Curriculum. Pupils in KS1 are taught to investigate people and places in their local area, as well as contrasting areas in the UK and beyond. In KS2 children learn about world concepts such as the Tropics, Poles and climates. They are taught to use vocabulary, skills and resources such as maps, atlases and aerial photographs to answer geographical questions. We learn about our local area and Year 4 visit the Royston Cave. |

History | |
Children learn about a range of historical periods from the Stone Age, to the Romans, to the Victorians to World War 2. We recognise the role re-enactment can have in bringing history alive and so have special history themed days from companies such as History Off the Page, as well as recreating significant events such as D-Day or the World War I Christmas truce. We also have a close link with the Royston Museum. |

Maths | |
Years 1 to 6 are learning about the different topics covered in Maths at the same time, which allows us to share resources and moderated across classes accurately. We use the 'Stick, Mark, Boom' assessment system which involves a pupil led assessment task each week to see if the children have understood the topics.
